Sports and Race with Lenya’s neighbor JC, Part 1

Fan of the show and neighbor of Lenya, JC joins the ladies to discuss politics, sports, and race throughout the world, and here in the US. As always, Alexandra and Lenya want to pull out the racial linings of every topic, and with JC it’s sports!

JC shares some stories of how the NFL fans have split and rejected the NFL because of Colin Kapernick, and Lenya describes what it’s like to see that whole situation unfold as a Black person in America.

There was so much great conversation with JC that we’re splitting into two episodes. Listen next week for the rest of this discussion!

Life and Dogs and Social Media

After a fantastic update on Lenya’s current lift training status, Alexandra and Lenya open up about the dogs they’ve raised, where they got them, what they asked for to get them, and how they lived their lives.

But as these things go, the conversation turned to race, and what is the nature of culture? How do you define culture, and when is it right to question a person’s actions, or their culture?

The episode wraps back to the perils of social media (Hey there, Capitalism, funny I’d meet you here.) and Lenya explains how TiKTok is the only social media platform she even wants to use anymore, and for good reason! Other social media platforms are silencing Black, Brown, and Indigionus voices.

And finally, Alexandra ponders where modern kids are learning civics lessons if not from School House Rock anymore. If you’re a parent or in the know, send us an email [Lenya.Alexandra.BridgingtheGap@gmail.com](mailto:Lenya.Alexandra.BridgingtheGap@gmail.com)

Home and Away: Racism in Home-buying and Travel

What’s up with Black families being blamed for lowering property values? Lenya took a stroll in a nice Black neighborhood, so she and Alexandra discussed why she would and wouldn’t move out of her nice white neighborhood. Also, Lenya talks about what Black people have to do to sell their homes, and an anecdote from her life where a sale fell through when buyers found out she was Black, but it sold when the buyers didn’t know that.

This expands to a conversation about how to stand up for yourself in the face of covert racism. Lenya mentions TikToks like this one: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMRTronGQ/ that explain how Black people need to hold their ground.

Alexandra checks in about the Tough Mudder she’s preparing for, plus some travel horror stories including a potential stabbing at Disneyland, and white people taking a Black woman’s seat on a plane.

Sisterhood

Lenya and Alex go deep into “what is sisterhood?”

Alexandra explains how she has no more time for insecure people. Lenya feels empowered and happy when she sees a woman out in her workout catsuit. Together they debate and discuss to get to what sisterhood really means.

There’s an acknowledgement that putting yourself out on social media in a manner that shows your true self, and not necessarily your online persona, can come with a lot of backlash, no matter the race. What does sisterhood tell us to do with this situation?

Listen in for this and more!

Kids and Capitalism with Brendan Hutchins

Producer of the show Brendan Hutchins is back to talk about getting his vasectomy reversed, having babies in this current state of the world, and just an update on what’s going on in his world.

Very quickly the topic turns to capitalism, as it often does, and we discuss the various things companies do because of the capitalistic incentives that drive all of their actions. There is also good conversation about charging your worth, and Lenya delighted by revealing she recently asked for a raise after starting The No Budget Babe course.

We shift over to discussing green energy and electric vehicles. Alexandra expresses she would feel guilty driving a fancy car, and Brendan counters that he just preordered a fancy electric car. Well, fancy and practical. There is a nice conversation about Tesla and never mentioned the CEO.

Brendan is getting married, so the ladies ask all about the planning and what’s going to happen, and share horror stories of weddings they’ve attended.

Ignore The Comments

Go anywhere on any social media platform, you’re going to find trolls, people who want to argue, and spew hate, and worse. What are you supposed to do with all that hate? You’re just trying to post a cute photo, or find out about local politics, or dancing with friends.

Alexandra and Lenya gather to discuss social media, give examples of people who are doing it right and doing it wrong, and wishcast their ideal way to remedy this problem. (Hint: it has to do with education and communication.)

But that’s just part 1 of this episode. Part 2 is a check in on the New Year’s resolutions, where Lenya describes how she’s been training and sleeping, and Alexandra covers her workouts and money making plans.

Lastly, the ladies have a question for you and would like your input: Should white get a capital W the way that Black is now getting capital B? Alexandra and Lenya have different starting opinions, and we want to keep this discussion going, so join the [Facebook Group](https://www.facebook.com/groups/665585734389981) and comment on the post about this episode how you think the capitalization should be, and why.

The Olympics

Alex and Lenya have more to discuss about the Olympics!

Some people are saying they only turn on the Olympics to watch the Black athletes. What does this mean to them, and to the Black Community? Does it help? What if someone were to just watch the white athletes?

There’s more discussion about the media and their portrayal of Black olympians. And why, even though the Black equestrian community is growing, are there no Black equestrians at the Olympics?

This, and much more. Subscribe and tell your friends.

The Delta Variance

Welcome back to our virtual living room, because we have a lot of race and womanhood to discuss. Alexandra and Lenya are back for a new season with guests and hard topic discussions, unafraid to say what they think and discussing what it all means.
This episode covers the ostracization of Olympic athletes like Simone Biles and Naomi Osaka, and how when they try to do the right thing for them, their team, and their country, they get ridiculed and worse in the press, all for trying to do a thing while being a Black woman.
And it doesn’t just stop with the Olympics for athletes, but they also discuss how contestants on the British Bake Off, and F1 racing, and anyone on the internet can be subjected to anonymous hateful comments in the name of “free speech”, and there’s a nice rant about how social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and even TikTok delete posts and shadowban Black, Asain, and Indiginous creators, while condoning and allowing the hurtful posts against them.
We still have a long uphill battle against us, but we’re here to talk about it, and we’re happy to have you with us!
